Il continuum dialettale
A dialect continuum is a range of dialects spoken across a geographical area, differing only slightly between adjacent areas, but considerably between the most separated ones. Speakers of adjacent dialects can usually understand each other, but those at opposite ends might not. It illustrates gradual linguistic change.
