Θυσία
An act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to a deity. Sacrifices were a central part of ancient Greek religious practice, performed to honor the gods, seek their favor, or atone for wrongdoing. The nature of the sacrifice was highly significant.
